This is a member of the Gramineae family and is a cereal grain similar to wheat. It is lower in gluten than wheat . It also has less calories, protein and fats but does contain more carbohydrates. Rye is high in Vitamin A,K,E and also contains B2 and B6 vitamins. but overall Wheat has more
B vitamins than Rye.
Rye when growing is very tolerant of the cold and can also tolerate lower soil pH and fertility. It can be planted in the autumn to provide ground cover crop for over the winter.
